Marsha's Musings: Saved to the Uttermost (Hebrews 7:23-25 ESV)

The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:23-25 ESV)

When the current priest died, their office was vacated and another one had to be appointed.  But Jesus is different.  He is a priest forever because he never dies.  This means there is no need for earthly priests anymore because Jesus permanently holds that office.  There is no need for a change in the priesthood to be made.

The great encouragement from this is that He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to Him and He always, always lives to interceed for us before the Father.

What does it mean that He is able to save to the uttermost?  Uttermost means to the greatest or highest degree, the most or best of one's powers. When you think about the fact that God is all-powerful, well then, you get the idea of what it means that He is able to save to the uttermost.  That is as saved as you can get.  That is security.  No one can snatch them out of His hand.
