Marsha's Musings: Discerning Good & Evil (Hebrews 5:12-14 NKJV)

For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (Hebrews 5:12-14 NKJV)

So many Christians today fall into this category because they are not being taught the doctrines of Scripture in their churches. Nor are they taught how to study the Bible or challenged to study it at home by their pastors.

So many churches have fallen for the idea of giving people what they want to hear in order to bring the crowds in and have a large church instead of teaching them the great doctrines of Scripture and challenging them to dig into the Bible and really learn it.  As a result, their senses are not exercised to discern both good and evil and they begin to fall for all sorts of unBiblical ideas.  My previous pastor says that churches of that type are being filled with goats not sheep and they are being fed goat food instead of the Word of God.

Just one example is the popular teaching that if you just come to Jesus He will fix all your problems.  He will fix your broken marriage.  He will fix your financial problems.  He will heal your body.  He will make you successful.  The list goes on and on.  This is a bald faced lie.  This is to teach a false Jesus. No where in the Bible are we taught this stuff!  Yet I've heard it from a pulpit at a church I was a guest at. This was supposed to be a church known for it's Biblical teaching.

The people don't bat an eye when they hear this stuff because they have been lulled to sleep spiritually and their senses are not exercised to recognize the evil of it.

And then we have this Son of God movie, produced by a husband and wife who say they are Christians, yet she recently graduated from a New Age course in Spiritual Psychology and saw nothing wrong with visiting a medium so she could communicate with her dead mother...a practice that is condemned in the Bible.  But pastors all across the country are promoting this movie in their churches.  Focus on the Family interviewed the writers/producers of the movie and are promoting it.

The movie is not Biblically accurate because it leaves Satan out of the picture, portrays Jesus as some "hot" looking guy, when Scripture says in Isaiah 53 that he had no beauty that anyone should desire Him.  I don't know what other liberties they took because I have not seen the movie.  But even one liberty taken with Scripture is evil.  Unsaved women are swooning over his good looks and giggling because they feel a little guilty about thinking of Jesus in that way.  My daughter heard these conversations on a secular radio station the other day.  It's not good.

Back to the scripture at hand....the point being, when people fail to learn the truth of the Bible, they fail to discern what is good and what is evil.  The previous comments above are examples of this.

Lord, keep me true to Your Word!
