Marsha's Musings: Neglect And the Results of It (Hebrews 2:1-3 NKJV)

Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, (Hebrews 2:1-3 NKJV)

Neglect. It is easy to neglect many things. What happens when you neglect the yard?  It grows weeds.  It gets ugly.  What happens if you neglect housekeeping?  It gets cluttered, dusty and not very pleasant to live in.  What happens if you neglect your car maintainance?  Your car will eventually break down.

So what happens if we neglect our salvation?  I believer the author here is speaking about neglecting your spiritual growth and health and taking your salvation for granted.  So what happens if we neglect it?  Our assurance of salvation begins to  fade.  Our spiritual growth gets stunted.  We do not develop the Christian graces that we are should become evident in our lives as Christians.  Our relationship to God begins to wane.
We begin to drift away from God, the church and our spiritual roots.

How do we prevent it?  By giving heed to what we have learned from God's word.  By paying attention and putting it in to practice in our lives.  We have to guard our hearts and work at this!
