Marsha's Musings: Irreverent Babble

But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some. (2 Timothy 2:16-18 ESV)

Irreverent babble is wicked, vain and empty discussion, according to Strong's Concordance.  Then Paul goes on to use Hymenaeus and Phietus as examples.  Apparently, vain, wicked, empty discussion is anything that is contrary to what Scripture says and that has the potential to upset the faith of others.

Hmmm. This makes me examine what I say in light of this.
