Marsha's Musings: A Charge

My Quiet Time:

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme. (I Timothy 1:18-20 NKJV)

What charge is Paul talking about?  We have to look back at verses 3-4 to find out.

"...that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith."

Paul committed this charge to Timothy to pass on to the believers in Ephesus.  This was also a charge to Timothy personally, that he might wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience.  It's a charge to us today as well.  Some have made shipwreck of their lives by rejecting these things.  We don't want to do that.
