Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity. (I Timothy 5:1, 2 NKJV)
As I look at this, I am struck by how we are to treat each other as Christians. Basically we are all family. Hopefully we would not treat each other wrongly in our own biological families and as part of the family of God it should not be any different.
We are to regard other Christians as family with all purity. I think Paul added that last bit because he knew that sometimes in our natural families we are prone to bickering and backbiting at times. So he added with all purity just to clinch it.
So how are we all doing in this family thing? Are we getting along? Are our family relationships in the family of God being carried out with purity? Are we bickering and backbiting? We need to be careful of these things.
