Marsha's Musings: He Speaks with Great Authority on Things He Knows Nothing About

This was my grocery shopping day. My low back has been giving me fits and I was in a lot of pain before I got done at Walmart. I almost gave up and went home at that point, but I still needed to go to Costco.

For some reason my back was a little more cooperative at Costco. I was happy I went there. I got to sample chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered macadamia nuts and almond roca. Yum, yum!

Later this afternoon Rick and I went out to Starbucks for half price frappicinos. That was yummy too.

Tonight we have five young adults (including Nathaniel) around the kitchen table playing games and later they plan to build a fire outside and roast marshmallows and have smores.

My Quiet Time

"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God." (Colossians 2:16-19 KJV)

These verses describe for me what legalism is all about. It's a list of do's and don'ts, special "holy" days, and rituals that all must be kept in order to be worthy to go to heaven.

My paraphrase for "...intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind..." would be "he speaks with great authority about things he knows nothing about". Beware of those people. They often set themselves up as the ultimate authority over a church and expect everyone to fall in line behind them. These are the makings of cult leaders and cults.
