As I watched the news today and the replays of the bombs going off at the finish of the Boston Marathon, I was filled with so many emotions. Anger, horror, denial, to name a few. There just were not words to express how I felt. I tried several times to write a post on Facebook only to delete it because words were not adequate. They still aren't.
My heart goes out to all those who were hurt and those who helped the hurting and those who had to witness the horrific scene. They will all be forever changed by this act of terror.
My daughter and I are getting ready to fly to LA in one week. My heart sank as I saw this act of terror on TV and I thought about flying to LA. I know security will be beefed up but I was afraid that a terrorist might get past security where we might be and I began to worry.
Then I had to tell myself that God is in sovereign control of all things. If it is His will to keep us safe and return us home safely, He will.
We live in a scary world that shouldn't be like this. This mess is the result of man's choice to exclude God from the equation way back in the Garden of Eden. Romans 1 tells us why the world is the way it is and why people do horrible things like we saw today, at Sandy Hook, in Bengazi, 9/11 and other terrible events. The reason is stated at least three times in Romans 1. The later part of the chapter tells us how men and women have excluded God from their lives, intent on going their own way and it says, "God gave them up". Read Romans 1. Three times it says, "God gave them up." It is chilling. That is exactly what happened today. Those people who planted those bombs are people who have excluded God from their lives and God has given them up so they can do whatever they want to do without His restraint. It is not that God can't intervene, but that He won't. That is a scary place to be and our nation is in that scary place now. Our nation is in the process of excluding God from the equation and God is giving our wicked nation up to do what it wants to do without His restraining hand of grace to stop it. We are reaping the consequences.
The only comfort we have in this horrific tragedy is that for those who know Jesus Christ as Lord, we know this is not our home and when death comes knocking on our door it will take us to a far better place. I can only pray for those who have been affected by this day that they will come to know Him Who is the Prince of Peace. My heartfelt prayers are going up for their souls. May God grant them His peace during this tragic time.
