This past year I have been using my iPod for my Bible reading. I've been using YouVersion's chronological reading plan. I have enjoyed it a lot. I have enjoyed the fact that I can have it read to me and I have utilized this almost daily. It is especially nice when I wake in the middle of the night and don't want to turn on a light. I can have my Bible passage read to me as I lay awake at night.
There are drawbacks to this, however. I have found that I have rarely spent any time journalling about what I am "reading" in my Bible. It's all too easy to have my iPod app read me my Bible during breakfast and then off I go to my day. I miss that time of thinking about what I read, writing down verses that meant a lot to me that day etc.
I love the electronics, the ability to "share" verses I am reading over Facebook and YouVersion with the touch of a finger, but I find that all these distractions are not conducive to really savoring the Word and making it applicable to my daily life.
I also find that I have to learn to control the electronics or they will control me. I'm afraid I have let that happen.
So, today I am on day 365 (yes, I got behind) of my chronological Bible "reading" err shall I say, "listening". I need to decide what I plan to do for my daily devotions for the rest of the year. I'm thinking I might go back to a paper Bible and do a New Testament reading for the remainder of the year. And I would like to get back to my journaling as well. Not sure if I will do the journalling on paper too or do it here on my blog.
I just know that I need to do something different. I feel like I am stuck in a rut.
