Our Refuge and Strength

Psalms Chapter 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

It seems like we have been hearing of more and more earthquakes lately.  They say it's just because they have more equipment around to detect them, and that maybe be true.  They are detecting more and more of the smaller ones that otherwise would go unnoticed. But it still seems to me that we are seeing an increase in the big earthquakes that cause lots of damage.

Scripture talks about this and many other signs that will come to pass before the end comes.

 Matthew Chapter 24

[4] And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. [5] For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. [6] And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. [7] For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
[8] All these are the beginning of sorrows. [9] Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. [10] And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. [11] And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. [12] And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. [13] But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. [14] And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Many of these things are already happening. For a long time I used to get upset when I would see these things happening.  It is still disturbing to me, but our pastor pointed out that it should strengthen our faith because Jesus told us these things would happen.  When we see them happening, we know that Jesus was telling us the truth and we can trust Him.

It will not be a pretty picture by the end.  But we can take comfort in our Refuge and Strength.  He is a present help in trouble.  We can be still and know that He is God.
