Devotional: Our Riches

Psalm 37:16  A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

I have appreciated this verse many times.  The wicked have their riches only in this life time.  Those whom God has made righteous through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ, may not have riches in this life but will in eternity.

Indeed, we already have them according to Ephesians 1:3-5.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:  5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,  6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Not only can we be content with what we have because our riches are stored up in heaven, but we are rich because God will never leave us.
Heb 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Indeed, God's people are the richest people on earth even if they are poor by the world's standard.

As I have been trying to sift through the abundance of stuff we have collected over the years, I find that earthly riches are not really all they are cracked up to be.  Some times they get in the way. They cause extra worry and they don't last and often have to be fixed.  Our heavenly riches will never cause us these troubles. We so much to be thankful for!
