Decorah Eagles and What they Tell Me about Evolution

June 15-16 were exciting days as the baby eagles got up the nerve to finally fly out of the nest and perch on a nearby branch!  It has been so fun to watch the development of these majestic birds.  What will I do when they fly away and the camera is turned off?  It has been a blessing of technology that we have been able to observe this piece of creation.

God has perfectly planned and created these birds to know exactly how to care for their young and teach them what is necessary for survival.  Each bit of instinct is needed by them to successfully raise these eaglets.  If any piece is missing the eagles would not survive.  When one watches the development and parenting skills of these eagles, if you think about it, it defies evolution.

If one piece of these bird's instincts was missing they would not survive.  Evolution has animals slowing changing from one form to another and adapting to their environments as they change.  That necessarily would mean that in the process of evolution, an eagle would not have all the necessary instincts and development to perpetuate its survival. At some point its wings would not be fully functional and it would fall prey to starvation and being killed by other animals.  If the adult was not endowed with all the necessary instincts and functions needed to teach the young, then they would die.

My observations of the eagles points to an intelligent design by a God-creator who put all the necessary DNA together to have a fully functional eagle from the beginning.

Did you know that when an eagle builds a nest she starts out with rocks and thorns. She then starts to build a normal nest and lines it with leaves and animal skins and things that are comforting. As the eaglets grow older she stars to feed them less and less and then starts to take away the animal skins and all the comforts. The eaglets start to exerience pain, hunger, suffering. This pushes them to grow up, leave the nest and move on. God does this in our lives as well. He puts us through trials and we experience suffering because God knows we will grow from it. Romans 5. We grow in our strenght and our faith in God. If we were never challenged and never suffered, we would never try to change anything in our comfortable life. Gods will is for us to suffer like this and grow closer to him, his plan is how we suffer. It is fascinating what Gods will is for us, and how that differs from his plan for us as well.
