And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
This verse is not saying that we are going to be gods. Scripture tells us plainly that there is only one God.
Mark 12:29 Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.I think the context of the passage points to the fact that when we reach heaven and are in God's presence we will be sinless as He is sinless. We are being encouraged here to purify ourselves and to not practice sinning. We are to mortify sin in our earthly bodies in preparation to be with God and to glorify God while we are on earth.
Mark 12:32 So the scribe said to Him, "Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.
