Marsha's Musings: Don't Throw Out the Treadmill & Dumb Bells Yet!

1Timothy 4:7 But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance.

Ha, ha.  I've heard people say, with tongue in cheek, that these verses give us an excuse to not exercise physically.  Nope. It isn't letting us off the hook.  It doesn't say that bodily exercise isn't profitable.  It's saying that in comparison to godliness, which is profitable for all things, bodily exercise profits a little...it profits only your physical body and health while godliness is good for everything.  So don't throw out your treadmills yet.  Instead, try exercising both at the same time.  Put on a good sermon or Christian program of sort to listen to while you exercise. Then take what you learn with you through your day and apply it to your life.
