2 Timothy 4:1-5 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:
Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Here is what the preacher should be doing:
1. Preaching the Word!
2. Preaching the truth when it is popular and when it is not popular.
3. Convincing people of the truth.
4. Rebuking those who need it.
5. Exhorting (encouraging) God's people
6. Teach the people with patience.
When they get itchy for something "different" and "new" ....(when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.)
8. Be watchful
9. Endure afflictions (they may cause you afflictions if you oppose what they want)
10. Do the work of an evangelist (evangelize those outside of Christ)
11. Fulfill your ministry
These are some of the instructions for pastors that are found in the Bible. If your pastor is not doing these things then maybe it's time to speak with him about it. It might be time to find a church where the pastor is doing his job according to Scripture. I don't see anything in Scripture that indicates the pastor is to be the CEO of the church. Nor do I see anything about the pastor being responsible to provide entertainment for the people or to arrange for it in the worship service.
