2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(NKJV)
1. It is inspired by God. That makes it authoritative
2. It's authority covers several areas:
a. doctrine--all teaching needs to be in agreement with it
b. reproof--when we sin, it reproves us
c. correction--when we are in need of being corrected, it corrects us
d. instruction in righteousness--it teaches us all we need to know to live a godly life
3. Why is it important for these things?
a. that we may be complete
b. that we may be thoroughly equipped to do good works
Everything the Christian needs to be complete and equipped is right here in the Bible. Don't anyone try to tell you otherwise. There is no need for extra-biblical scripture or rites and ceremonies that are not prescribed in the Bible for God's people to be complete. He has lovingly provided all we need right in the Bible. It is our rule of faith and life. All other religious teaching, leaders and books must measure up to this and if they don't then they have no authority over us.
