The Saga of My Son's Loose Tooth

N has had a baby tooth that has driven our dentist half crazy.  From the time the dentist said we needed to get him in braces, he has bugged us about wanting to pull two of his remaining baby teeth.
The orthodontist was not in a hurry about it.  He said those teeth would just fall out when they were ready.  One of them finally did this past year.  Too bad, our dentist lost out on $80 dollars.
N had this one tooth that just kept hanging on and hanging on.  It was very loose, but just wouldn’t let go.  Two weeks ago he had a cleaning at the dentist office and the hygienist and the dentist were doing all they could to strong arm me into letting him pull the tooth while he was there for the cleaning.  My goodness you would have thought it was an emergency that that tooth just had to come out NOW!
I stood my ground.  I said the orthodontist wasn’t worried about it but if he thought it was an issue he could take it up with the orthodontist.  It didn’t make him very happy.  I’m sure he was looking at a very easy $80 for pulling that tooth.
N saw the orthodontist this week.  When he came out after his appointment he had a long piece of dental floss hanging from his mouth.  They explained that the floss was tied around the tooth that needed to come out and that he was to play with that floss and try to get the tooth to come out.  The floss hung out of his mouth for over 24 hours as he agonized over how he was going to get it out without pain.
I finally told him if he got it out before 10pm last night, I would pay him $10.  But for every day he let it go, he would lose a dollar.  I was really tired of the floss hanging from his mouth and hearing him fuss about trying to pull that tooth.
S finally convinced him last night to let her tie my two pound hand weight to the floss and he’d drop the weight over the balcony.  S would video tape.
I went outside because I didn’t want to hear the screams when it happened.  When I came back in, they still had not done it, but before I could get back outside I heard the weight fall and instead of a scream of terror, I heard a yell of victory! J   The job is done and the dentist just lost out on another easy $80!!!  J
