Devotional: God Knows Our Weariness

God Knows Our Weariness
by Marsha Iddings

John 4:6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

Jesus left Judea and was on his journey to Galilee.  He had to go through Samaria and  we see that He was weared with his journey, so he sat on the well.  This is when the woman of Samaria come out to draw water and Jesus had a conversation with her.

What stands out to me, though, is the fact that Jesus was wearied with his journey.  Although Jesus was fully God, he was also fully human and as such, he suffered the same physical exhaustion that we do.  Are you weary with your journey?  Do you have physical weaknesses that wear you down?  Jesus knows what it is to be weary.  He understands your limitations.  He has experienced it too.

Matthew 8:18 "...Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses."

Hebrews 4:15 "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin."

What a comfort it is to know that our God is sensitive to our weakness and our physical limitations.  It's amazing to think that the God of the universe, the creator of heaven and earth is also intimately aquainted with our weariness and He understands.  This means that we are able to come boldly to Him in our time of need.

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:16)
