The Tongue (Sunday Sermon) Part 5

Consider #4: The unbridled tongue is a tongue that flatters.

The person with an unbridled tongue is overly concerned with what others think of them.

Remember, the unbridled tongue that James speaks of is the one who thinks themselves to be religious.

That is they think themselves to be excelling at religion, and they want other to recognize them.

They need people in their camp to listen to them, and they keep people in their camp by flattering them.

The person with an unbridled tongue uses flattery and smooth speech so that others would have a high opinion of them.

Ro 16:18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

Jude v.16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.

Remember: Jude is speaking of those IN the church!

The unbridled tongue may speak smoothly, but it will speak to satisfy its own designs.

The unbridled tongue may seem to be sympathetic as it uses flattery and smooth speech to comfort with, but it really is interested in its own glory.

All is not what it seems when you are dealing with a person, in the church, who has an unbridled tongue.

___________

Many people who pray in prayer meetings are flattering the ones they pray for in the room they sit in.

They want to be well thought of by a certain person…and flattery enters their prayer.

This must be avoided! And it is abominable in the sight of God who never flatters.

Pro 20:19 do not associate with one who flatters with his lips.
