#1 – What is an unbridled tongue?
Consider #1 in answer to this question: A person with an unbridled tongue is one whose tongue is unbridled often.
We all sin with our tongue.
It is likely that our tongues cause us the most grief.
The one with an unbridled tongue is not the one who sins with their tongue and is grieved by it.
But rather the one with an unbridled tongue is the one who is in the habit of speaking in an unbridled manner.
The one with the unbridled tongue is one who doesn’t see their tongue in need of being bridled.
The one with the unbridled tongue is so impressed with their own religion…they indeed must speak and speak often.

It is a continual way of speaking.
To speak with an unbridled tongue sometimes, is not who James is dealing with here.
All Christians struggle with remaining sin…and all Christians struggle with the use of their tongues.
To have a SLIP of the tongue, and to speak sinfully with the tongue SOMETIMES – is not the one who religion is useless.

One who has an unbridled tongue is one who THINKS themselves to be religious…but speak (as a course of habit) in a certain manner.
These are those who are pleased with their religion.
The one with an unbridled tongue is one who fancies themselves to be doing well in their religion…and they speak in a certain way – often.
An unbridled tongue is a tongue that continuously is unbridled.
