Life at the Iddings’ house….
A few days ago I was cooking and boiled something over on the stove…well, I forgot to take the burner off and wash the drip pan. So today, I have the griddle on the burner and I am cooking bacon (yes…it’s nitrate free bacon!). Smoke started pouring out from under the griddle. So I opened all the doors and windows and turned on fans and continued cooking because my husband would be home soon for lunch…cooking and smoke are not an uncommon sight at our house. In fact, smoke alarms blaring are not all that uncommon. The neighbors just figure, oh, Marsha’s cooking again.
Well, I turned the burner up to cook a little faster and the next thing I knew flames started licking up out from underneath the griddle. I managed to move the griddle over and the flames were leaping a foot in the air! Oh, where are the hot dogs and marshmallows!?? I dug quickly through the cupboard looking for the baking soda, yelling “We have fire!!!” I found the jar and there wasn’t enough baking soda to put out the flame. So my son ran to the basement and came up with a box…I poured it in and the fire went out…it was Washing Soda…but it worked!
My daughter was in her room with the door shut because of the smoke. She didn’t know there was a fire until it was out. Her comment was, “Oh, man…I wish I knew I could have taken a picture and posted on the web for all my friends to see what cooking in the Iddings’ house is like!!!”
So that is my excitement for today.

You had me laughing out loud and if you really think about it that is hardly funny! I'm just glad I'm not the only one with smoke alarm issues!
Thank God the Iddings home is still standing! And thanks for the nitrate free bacon comment. I had not idea they even sold that!
