Marsha's Musings: What is Your Worldview?

Last night at church the speaker was speaking on the 6th Commandment..."Thou shalt not kill."
He pointed out that the reason we have so much murder, abortion, suicide, and the fight to get euthanasia on the law books is because man has a skewed worldview. If you do not know what "worldview" is or you do not know what your worldview is, he said just answer on a piece of paper, these three questions and you will see what your worldveiw is.

  1. Who am I?
  2. Why am I here? (purpose)
  3. Where am I going? (eternal destiny)

You would be surprised at how many people think they are here by chance, they get through life by chance and when it is all over they just go into oblivion. This is the product of kids being taught for years that man just evolved from nothingness, we live by the survival of the fitest and when we die we just go off to nothingness. With teaching like this, it's no wonder we are killing our babies before they are born. It's no wonder people murder and commit suicide...there is no value to life (or so they think). It's no wonder our people want to make it legal to kill the sick and elderly! It's no wonder there is such a disregard for the 6th Commandment!

But the speaker didn't leave it there. By the time he was done I was in tears. He brought it closer to home by taking us to

Matthew 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

He pointed out that later in that chapter Jesus talks about adultery and how that if you look on a person to lust after them in your heart, you have already committed adultery with them in your heart. He said the same thing is true with anger. When we get angry and say we wish so and so was not around, we are committing murder in our hearts. He said when we say anything derogatory toward a person we are devaluing one whom God created and we are basically murdering them in our hearts and breaking the 6th Commandment. Talk about convicting!

But the Good News is that even though I am guilty as charged, God has forgiven my sin because of Jesus' perfect sacrifice on the cross for my sin.

Colossians 2:13 ¶ And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of
your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all
trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against
us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his
cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of
them openly, triumphing over them in it.

This doesn't mean I am free to continue in sin because I am forgiven. On the contrary, it means I am free to work on those sins with the help of the Holy Spirit, to gain the victory over them without the condemnation of God's judgement hanging over my head for them. Now, that is encouraging! Do you have that assurance?
