Marsha's Musings: A Fun Day

Saturday we decided to take one last hooray before school starts. We packed a picnic and headed down across Lower Granite Dam to Boyer Park. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, flew kites and played in the water. Then we packed up, crossed the dam again and went up the road a piece until we found the Illia Sand Dunes. I had been told about these but had never stopped to see them. We couldn't see much from the road. We parked and hiked down a short trail and what a sight to see! We came out about in the middle of a big sand dune that ended below in a sandy beach. The river was shallow for about forty feet out. The kids were able to walk out to the middle of the river before their shorts every got wet. They had a blast climbing around on the dunes and taking pictures. We collected shells and pieces of drift wood and granite. It was the next best thing to being at the ocean minus the surf and breakers. We are looking forward to going back sometime.
