My Frugal Friday Tip for this week is saving money on clothes! We have rarely had to buy new clothes for my daughter because we trained her early on that hand-me-downs from friends and clothes bought at the second hand store are just as good as clothes bought for a premium up town. She is dressed in many name-brand clothes that look just as good as if we had bought them at some upscale store in the big city and most of them were given to her by someone else who bought them, wore them for a while and got tired of them. Other clothes we find at Good Will, Salvation Army or St. Vincent De Paul.
We also shop the end of the season sales at Walmart and often find brand new clothes at second hand prices when Walmart is clearing out at the end of a season.
I have many clothes that I absolutely love that I have found in the second hand stores. One of my favorites is an Eddie Bower (sp?) jean skirt that looked brand new. I picked it up for $2. The same day I also picked up a jean vest to wear with it for 99 cents.
The only caution I would give on second hand store and garage sale buying is that you might find so many good buys that you over-spend your budget and bring home more than what you really have room for or will make good use of. Be selective in what you pick up. Just because something is a really good deal doesn't mean you should buy it. If you know you will use it then buy it, but otherwise restrain yourself or you will just clutter your house up and waste your money.

I love this post! It's a struggle to teach my tweens that they don't always need what is "cool" or "sick" (what a dumb phrase). I am so glad that we homeschool so that the pressure is less, yet, there still is pressure there, even at church. I love you attitude and I should venture to the thrift store more often. I love going for Halloween ideas!
Thanks for sharing!
