God is Great
by Marsha Iddings
Job 36:26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
God is great. When Elihu says we do not know God, he is referring to His greatness. It is impossible to adequately describe Him and to know all there is to know about Him. It would be like the ant trying to describe all there is to know about the human.
Elihu says the number of His years can not be known either. Psalm 90:2 says, "Before the mountains were brought forth or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world thou art God." God has always been God. Deuteronomy 33:27 says, "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms:" There are no numbers to describe eternal. If you look at a wedding band it appears to have no beginning point and no end point. That is the closest I can come to describing God's eternal being. It just blows my mind. God indeed is great! He is bigger than any problems you and I may have.
What a comfort to know that because God is eternal, He transcends time. He is already in the future ahead of us. Every trial that comes our way is Father filtered and designed to bring about God's good purposes in our lives and the lives of others. Rest in the knowledge that God is great and in control of your circumstances.
