The True Measure of God's Love
Romans 5:8 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
There are times in our lives when trials seem to be the norm. It is during times like these that it is easy to look around at others who don't seem to have any troubles and wonder if maybe God loves them more than He does us. After all, the logic goes, if He loved us as much as He does them, He would spare us these troubles like He has them. As we sit on our pity pot and compare our lives to the next person, it never occurs to us that the measure of God's love for us has nothing to do with the number of trials we have compared to the next person!
The measure of God's love for us was weighed out in the death of Jesus Christ on the cross for our sin. What makes His love even more remarkable is that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. He didn't wait for us to become worthy of His love first. He knew we never could. This is the true measure of God's love for us.
When you are tempted to doubt God's love for you, remember this truth and meditate on it in your heart.
Dear Father, I often need reminding that Your love is not dependent on my comparisons of how I perceive You have blessed others over me. Help me to always remember the true measure of Your love for me and that I truly am blessed with Your love. Amen.
