Letting the Peace of God Rule

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

The knot in the pit of my stomach twisted as the feeling of panic rose up. I wanted God to act on my behalf, but I wanted Him to do it MY way. My panic was a result of not trusting that He knew what He was doing. I wanted to be in control of the situation, yet I knew I had no control. Have you ever felt this way?

Our verse says to let the peace of God rule in your hearts. This phrase "peace of God" only appears twice in the Bible. The other reference tells us how to let the peace of God rule in our hearts.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

We are to pray with thanksgiving and let God know our requests. We need to leave our requests with God and not take them up to worry and wring our hands over whether or not the thing will turn out the way we want it too. We are to rest in His will knowing that whatever the outcome, He will be there to see us through and it will work out the way He thinks is best for us spiritually.

Is there something in your life today that has you wringing your hands in worry? Do what you can and should do about the matter and then leave it at the cross with Jesus. Let the peace of God rule in your heart.

Dear Father, It seems worry is such an easy trap to fall into. Give us grace to not have to be in control, but to let Your peace rule in our hearts. Amen.
