"While he was still approaching, the demon slammed him to the ground and threw him into a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy and gave him back to his father. And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.
Luke 9:42-43 NASB
"All amazed" could be read to include even the disciples. Why should they be amazed that Jesus could cast out the demon? They saw him cast out demons before this and heal people of illness. In fact, he had even raised someone from the dead. Peter and John were on the mountain when Jesus was transfigured before them and they heard the voice of God speak. Yet, when Jesus casts this demon out and heals the boy, they were "all amazed at the greatness of God."
But wait, don't I do the same thing? Time and time again God answers prayers, provides for my needs and shows me His power, then a new problem comes up and I begin to worry instead of remembering God's past leading and answers to prayer. Then, when God takes care of the problem, I am all amazed that He did.
Actually, there is nothing wrong with being amazed at the greatness of God in our lives when it comes from an amazement of wonder and awe. It's when the amazement comes from a place of unbelief. We down deep don't really believe that God can help us with this certain problem. Then when He does we are amazed. We should be amazed with the greatness of God no matter how He chooses to deal with us. He even uses bad problems in our lives to bring good fruit in our lives. That is amazing. It is amazing that He chooses to love and save any of us. He certainly doesn’t have to, but He does. Yes, we should be amazed at His greatness all the time, not just when He does something we doubted Him to do.
