Isaiah 11:2
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
In church, Sunday, the speaker was in Isaiah and he mentioned this verse along with the context but never looked at it in detail. I am a list maker. So when I saw a list here, I was instantly drawn to it.
The verse is located in the prophecy of the coming of Jesus in the New Testament era. I find this list incredibly interesting. It is the characteristics of the Holy Spirit.
1. Wisdom
2. Understanding
3. Counsel
4. Strength
5. Knowledge
6. Fear of the Lord
Think about that. As Christ-followers we are given the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. These are things that we need as Christ-followers. We need wisdom, understanding, counsel, strength, knowledge and the fear of the Lord. With the Holy Spirit indwelling us, we have all these things available to us. What a comfort this is!
