Devotional: One God

One God

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

This verse says it so simply.  "The LORD our God is one LORD" We serve one God.  He is the only true God.  There are no other gods beside Him.

Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me:

Isaiah 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me

Jehovah is the English rendering for the Hebrew name for LORD in this verse.  It means self-Existent or Eternal.  Our God is the eternal God. He was not created.  He always was, always is and always will be God.  What a comfort this is in trials!

Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms:

Knowing that God is the true God, the only God and the eternal, self-Existent God brings comfort to me as it speaks to me of His power and ability to see me through whatever comes my way here on this earth.  It tells me He is all-powerful, all-knowing and bigger than my problems.  That brings much comfort to my heart.  I hope it will do the same for you.

Devotional:God is Not a Man

God is Not a Man

by Marsha Iddings

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

I am so thankful that God is not a man.  So many religions of the world have mere men that they have lifted up to the status of god.  They have no power to forgive sins, no power to save a man's soul, and no power to raise the dead. They are fickle human beings who can't make up their minds like the rest of us and who from time to time don't keep their word just like all the rest of the human race.  Most of them are dead.  What trouble we would be in if God was a mere human like the rest of us!  I shudder to think of it.

God is eternal, self-existent.  He is not like us.  He always has been and always will be.

He is a promise keeper, "hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"  He is not fickle like man is.

I find so much comfort in knowing that God always was God and always will be God.  When I am in the middle of trials that threaten my well-being, I know I have a God I can run to.  I have a God that hears and answers prayer.  I have a God that loves me in spite of who I am. I have a God who knows everything about me.  I have a God that is not like me in any way, yet knows my weaknesses and offers His strength to help in time of need.  He said, "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."

God is not a man...that speaks of power and strength to me.  He is not weak and wimpy.  This is my God.

Devotional: Seeing the Trash in a New Light

Seeing the Trash in a New Light

By Marsha Iddings

Psalms 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

I opened the cupboard door under the sink to take the trash out and found it overflowing.  It's not usually the first thought that goes through my mind when this happens, but today this is what went through my mind when I saw the overflowing trash:

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,

Praise ye creatures here below,

Praise him all ye heavenly hosts,

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost!

Wow, that was a strange thing to have gone through my mind when I saw the trash overflowing.  But then I got to thinking about it.  We complain about having to take the trash out and get irritated when it overflows and no one in the house seems to have the technology to take it.

Have you ever thought about the fact that the overflowing trash is a visible reminder of all the blessings God bestows on us each day?  We have food wrappers, milk cartons and egg cartons and food scraps because God provides food for our family.  We have boxes and wrappers from toys, and products that we buy to help make our lives more enjoyable.  God provides the ability for someone in the household to bring in an income so we can have these things.

Taking out the trash can become a time of worship and praise to God for all that He provides for us each day.  How's your trash today?  Overflowing?  Are you the only one who has the technology to take it out?  Turn it into a time of praise to God for His over-abundant blessings on you.

Dear Father, Thank You for putting that song into my head when I saw the over-flowing trash under the sink. Thank You for helping me to see the trash in a new light.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Devotional:Finding Fulfillment in Christ

Finding Fulfillment in Christ

By Marsha Iddings

Colossians 2:8-11 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

Our society puts pressures on young people to make them feel that they are not complete and fulfilled unless certain conditions are met.  What young person hasn't heard someone ask them, "When are you doing to start dating and find a boyfriend (or girlfriend)?" or "When are you ever going to get married?"  Then once a person does get married, the question is, "So, when are you going to have a baby and start a family?"

Then there are those, who like the Pharisees, add their own list of rules and commandments to what God says in the Bible and they set out to make you feel that you are incomplete in your faith in Christ because you don't adhere to their religious rules.

Paul tells us to beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  I fell into this trap for some time.  There was a time when my husband and I were unable to conceive and start a family. It was eight years of infertility.  This was a very difficult time for us because of the pressures that were placed upon us to start a family.  We began to feel that we could not be complete unless we were able to bring children into the world.

Then one day I read the scriptures above and realized that I am complete in Christ!  I can find fulfillment in Him right where I am at this moment.  I am complete in Him and I don't need anything more.  This truth will protect you from the assaults of the devil on your life.  After all, wasn't it Satan's design in the garden to get Eve to feel she was not complete and fulfilled unless she ate of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?  Didn't he make her feel as if she was missing out on something very important without it?

Once you get a hold of the truth that you are complete in Christ alone, then when you begin to feel pressure to believe you can not be fulfilled and complete unless you  do or achieve certain things, you will be able to stand against it, firm in your faith.

Dear Father, It is the devil's design to make me think I am not complete in You alone.  Please help me to stand against the world's philosophy and to stand complete in You.  Amen.

I would like to donate copies of my book "Sufficient Grace for Suffering Saints" to local doctor/medical offices for their waiting rooms.  For every seven "Sufficient Grace for Suffering Saints" books purchased through my storefront at http://www.lulu.com/Marsha-Iddings  I will be able to purchase and donate one book to a medical office waiting room.  Thank you for helping out if you are able.
